En 1989, Patrick Baz rejoint l’Agence France-Presse, couvrant la première Intifada à Gaza, la première guerre du Golf en 1990, et plus tard des conflits au Kurdistan, en Somalie et à Sarajevo. Il est devenu manager photo à l’AFP pour le Moyen Orient en 1996 mais a continué à couvrir les conflits.
